Jamaica day seven

Another day of me waking up early … Jesus when am I going to get a break! 😀 Anyway had to get up and get a shower early due to last night water problem. Had a little breakfast and now it’s a case of waiting for Jimmy to come and pick us up. Jimmy came by at last and it was taken two vans and one car. In total 13 people are going on the trip itself. Once we got here we didn’t know about us needing I.D which means we needed to show proof we are English and passport are not acceptable. The cave was really cool and I got a lot of pictures of the place (upload later) but we’re now going Dunn’s River now which is meant to be amazing as well! I didn’t know you could actually climb the waterfall itself which is a major thing for everyone! Unfortunately my phone died when we got there so no pictures of the place! Still it was a cool day again and we even went past Irie FM headquarters!

Jamaica day 11

Today another person is leaving and although I’m not fully awake I’m still feeling a little sad. Auntie El and cousin Jessica are heading off soon but for now they are making sure they are all packed and ready. As always Brian came by the house and we say and chatted until we dropped Grandma off to Church. Afterwards we sat at the place where we get Jerk chicken from. What we wasn’t expecting was the sad news of the chef passing away from natural causes. This also meant that the place wouldn’t be opening up the cooking side until Tuesday. We picked Grandma up and dropped her home but my phone battery was completely dead. I left it to charge and eventually someone had been showing pictures of the funeral. One of the pictures was of Auntie Faye laying in her coffin. While at first it didn’t hit me as hard my stomach made a turn for the worst. I was throwing up quite heavily due to it since it remained me of Granddad. I soon left the house with Brian and stayed at his house instead. I spend most of the day there afterwards until we came back home.

Going to the airport

I knew me going with mum with bring something to piss me off and she did. She gave me my wallet this morning after the shower with a hundred dollars to spend. Cool I thought I’ll use it as emergency money since I’ll be bring my card at a safe place. We get in the cab and my wallet feels light and I’m wondering why. She took all of my cards out of it. I was fuming and told her why the hell would you do that?! And her answer was well you don’t need it. I already felt my independence been taken away from me due to this. She didn’t understand why I was upset and kept saying well use it when you get back. Even though it was about £150 I saved it was spending money for this trip. We got to the airport and instantly I could feel my body craving for a cigarette. The truth of the matter is I would only need one to get and not a whole pack of ten. Problem is you can’t just buy one over the counter and neither will someone give you one. We got our luggage checked in and mum paid a little extra to have seats near the front for more leg room. Afterwards she went to the toilet and when coming back asked me what is it you needed your card for? This again … Independence! I could buy what ever I wanted without having to know I have to ask you for anything! I told her I was going to buy a cigarette and lighter then something to eat. Turns out mum had been awake since 2am and had something to eat already. Even though I woke up at 3am I was still not awake and tired as hell. She gave me £20 which basically covered everything but then at the same time you wish things were cheaper. She was a little upset me doing this because already she wanted to check in. *Cue me face-palming!* I tried to light the cigarette but my body was rejecting it. Guess my Straight Edge side was telling me to you ain’t having it! I came back upstairs and we checked in as she wanted it. We still had over a hour and I couldn’t take my drink with me. I was getting more and more annoyed but just thought relax … We will get on the plane and everything will be okay. Soon as we got upstairs to sit down the bag handle broke completely. What next I was thinking … I’m just going to wait and see.

Here in Jamaica

So I’m here in Jamaica and I have to say it’s hot! It’s like Singapore all over again but the good thing is this is with family. A family that I know so little about but always wanted to meet. When we touched down at long last, the first family member I saw was Jimmy. Jimmy is my cousin and does mini cabbing for a living. The first few things I noticed was how some people would walk around in the middle of the street selling various items. Busy road like a highway and just pacing up and down with no care. Memories of Singapore started to flood back when seeing people riding at the back of vans. we went to Mega Mart where you can get American food that looks like a huge warehouse. I didn’t get a good chance to look around the place but picked up a bottle of Bigga! I didn’t know if it would taste different from the UK version or not but I was willing to try.

Afterwards we went to Jimmy’s house and saw his wife. Never spoke to her before but she seemed very shy! The house seemed a little small but enough for the both of them. One thing I should point out as well is that the roads are horrible. The road leading up to Grandma’s house is full of holes and a completely uneven surface. Pretty bad trust me and this can result in breaking your car. Another thing to be wary about is the animals that walk around freely. Good example is the dogs that will run up to your car and start barking at you. Stupid but that’s what they do and even at times the goat will run across the road. When we finally reach Grandma’s house the place was packed out with loads of family members. I’ll admit most of them I had no idea who they are so it was pretty much a hi how are you, move on to the next! I was pretty tired still since back in London the time would be around half one in the morning.

In the end I said hello to Grandma who was pretty happy to see me and she couldn’t let go of me. Auntie El who I not seen since 2007 or 2008 with my cousin Jessica.

Leaving Jamaica

Small update … But we are just waiting to board the plane now. In total it’s being a new experience for me and I’m glad to see my family. I know I have to come back and I just hope I can sooner than later but of course, need to get money first! Either way will update and post the album link when I get home!
